Trond Unneland, Managing Executive

Trond Unneland joined Chevron Technology Ventures as Managing Executive in August of 2007. As Managing Executive, Trond leads the corporate Venture Capital Group. Prior to his current position, Trond was the Country Manager for Chevron Norway responsible for all Chevrons’ upstream interests in Norway. Before moving to Norway in January, 2006, he was the Chevron Denmark Country Manager stationed in Copenhagen. From 2000-2004, Trond was stationed in San Ramon, CA, as a technology account manager where he worked on many global projects. He was responsible for developing the governance model for Chevron’s efforts in real-time asset management, an effort that resulted in the i-field program in 2002.
Before joining Chevron, Trond worked for Statoil as Vice President for Information Technology in Stavanger, Norway. Over 16 years with Statoil he held engineering and management positions in exploration, offshore operations, and reservoir management. Trond also worked for the Norwegian Industry Attaché at the Royal Norwegian Consulate General, San Francisco, CA.
Trond holds a Masters degree in Reservoir Engineering from Stavanger University and a Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science & Technology, Trondheim. As part of his Ph.D. work, he spent a year at Stanford University, CA as a visiting researcher.
Trond has published many Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) papers on Reservoir Management, Sand Control and Well Performance, and has served on numerous SPE committees and forums. A native Norwegian, Trond serves as Board of Director on two key Norwegian R&D government bodies, DEMO2000 and PETROMAKS.
John Hanten, Venture Executive

John has over twenty years of experience in the petroleum industry, primarily in the upstream petroleum technology area. Initially joining Chevron in 1978 as a research geophysicist, he has subsequently held varied supervisory and management positions of increasing responsibility with former Chevron companies in areas of application development, technical services management, strategic planning, operational management, and e-business development. In 1995, as Strategic Planning Manager for Chevron Petroleum Technology Company, he pioneered the internal use of Web technology to streamline communications and other business processes. Most recently he was a Sr. Consultant with Chevron e-Business Development Company, working on new venture start-ups and internal Web initiatives.
He has been active in industry standards and e-business initiatives, and served as an elected Board Member of the Petrotechnical Open Software Corporation (POSC) from 1999-2001, and Chairman during 1999-2000. He participates as an observer to the boards of BlueArc, MetaCarta, Radiance Technologies, and TradeCapture.
John earned a B.A. in Earth Science from the University of Minnesota, an M.S. in Geophysics from Purdue University, and an M.B.A. from St. Mary’s College.
Don Riley, Venture Executive

Don is a Venture Executive for Chevron Technology Ventures and manages venture investments in the Power and Energy Fund, which makes direct investments in early- to mid-stage power and energy start-ups, and Diversified Technology Funds. In 1999, Don co-founded Chevron’s first venture investment group, Chevron Technology Ventures, which developed a portfolio of investments in information technology, material science, and biotechnology start-ups. Prior to his venture investment assignment, Don was Chief Geophysicist for Chevron USA and Chevron Canada, where he was also General Manager for Human Resources. Early in his 30+ year career with Chevron, Don led research efforts in advanced 3-D seismic processing and supercomputing technology at the company’s La Habra, Calif., Research Laboratory. Don received doctorate and master's of science degrees from Stanford University and also holds a bachelor's of science from The University of Tulsa, all in geophysics. He is currently a board observer for Ember, IronPort Systems, MicroFabrica Inc., Sub-One Technology, Stingray Geophysical Limited, Teros, and Xenogen. Don is located in San Ramon, CA.
Richard Pardoe, Principal

Richard Pardoe joined Chevron Technology Ventures as Principal and is located in the San Ramon, CA office. Prior to his venture investment assignment, Richard was a process engineer providing technical advice to refineries around the world regarding the operation and service of high pressure hyrdoprocessing equipment. Richard also served as a pipeline and marine scheduler in Chevron’s Supply and Trading Group ensuring the delivery of crude oil via ship and pipeline to end-user refineries throughout California. A native of California, Richard received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Davis.
Colleen Mazza, Administrative Assistant

Colleen joined Chevron Technology Ventures in 2002 as an Administrative Assistant. She provides administrative, planning, and data management support including maintaining back office systems and processes. In addition, Colleen acts as the principal administrative contact for portfolio companies and venture capital limited partnerships.
Colleen has a BS in Finance from Brigham Young University.
